North Dakota CIO wants in on blockchain

North Dakota Chief Information Officer Shawn Riley told StateScoop Monday that states should focus on tangible, public-facing projects to demonstrate the utility of technologies like blockchain, smart contracts and non-fungible tokens in government. Riley said blockchain has an “amazing” amount of potential applications in state government, though it can be difficult to explain its applications to people who aren’t familiar with the technology. He's also been serving as an adviser to a cryptocurrency company founded by his brother. Ryan Johnston reports.

Arizona IT strategy chief departs for hotel chain

Doug Lange, the State of Arizona's chief strategy officer since 2016, is now the vice president for IT at Choice Hotels, according to an update made yesterday to his LinkedIn profile. During his time as the Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology office's chief strategy officer, Lange was responsible for overseeing a transition to cloud-based applications, expanding the use of automated processes and reducing technology expenses for the state's 36,000-employee workforce.
