No college? No problem

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan this week said the state government will no longer require applicants for potentially thousands of state jobs to have four-year college degrees, a move officials said was made to boost recruitment in several fields, including information technology. At a press conference in Annapolis on Tuesday, Hogan said state agencies have already updated listings for about 300 open jobs — many of them in IT, customer service and administrative duties — to remove the college requirement. Benjamin Freed has more.

Florida hires traffic-tech firm to reduce congestion around Tampa

The traffic technology firm Iteris announced yesterday that it’s won a $5 million contract from the Florida Department of Transportation to reduce congestion in the Tampa Bay area. The company said it will provide services at reducing congestion and travel times. These include “performance monitoring and reporting, traffic signal timing plan updates, development and implementation of incident diversion routes, citizen comment response and resolution, and regular field inspections for maintenance.” Colin Wood has details.
