As Big Tech lays off IT talent, government senses opportunity

Public sector agencies are seeing an opportunity to ease some of their workforce woes as big tech companies continue to announce large swaths of layoffs. In the last two weeks, Amazon, Twitter and Meta have all announced the layoffs of thousands of jobs. "With layoffs at the door, tech professionals and engineers may be concerned for the future. We welcome you to the San Francisco Department of Technology where you can turn your skills and know-how toward the community good," San Francisco CIO Linda Gerull wrote in a LinkedIn post last week. Public sector IT jobs have an average vacancy rate of more than 20 percent. Lindsay McKenzie has more about how they're trying to fill it.
