AI, health data among trends in state privacy legislation
On this week’s Priorities podcast, two privacy experts from the International Association of Privacy Professionals discuss new state data privacy bills coming this year — 17 states have at least one privacy bill in committee. Cobun Zweifel-Keegan, the association’s managing director, and Andrew Folks, its Westin Research Fellow, break down the new legislation and what consumers and privacy practitioners can expect as new laws take effect in the months ahead. They also discuss how the three states — Montana, Oregon and Texas — with comprehensive privacy laws going into effect this year have been preparing. They cover Washington’s landmark My Health My Data Act, the first law in the nation to offer broad protections for consumer health data, and how upcoming privacy legislation is interacting with state efforts to govern artificial intelligence.
