Iowa CISO is out

Jeff Franklin, Iowa’s statewide chief information security officer of nearly 11 years, left the state government this month, officials said. Annette Dunn, the state’s chief information officer, confirmed Franklin’s departure to StateScoop in an email Wednesday, but did not say anything about the nature of his leaving. During his time as CISO, Franklin’s accomplishments included the development of a statewide cybersecurity strategy, expanding the IT agency’s catalog of security products it offers to the state’s public sector and creating election-protection programs in concert with the office of Secretary of State Paul Pate. Philadelphia's doing a data survey

The Philadelphia Office of Innovation and Technology began distributing a survey on Wednesday with the goal of crowdsourcing information from city employees and the public to make its open data portal more accessible, understandable and valuable. The 2020 PHL Open Data survey is the city’s first comprehensive attempt at gathering data on the success of its open data portal, which was redesigned in 2015 by the software company Azavea. Kistine Carolan, Philadelphia’s open data program manager, told StateScoop this survey is designed to gather both a larger volume of responses and to reach a more diverse audience than past attempts. Santa Clara County, Calif., CIO Ann Dunkin to step down

Ann Dunkin, who has served as chief information officer for Santa Clara County, California, for the last three years, will step down next month, she told StateScoop Tuesday. She’s taking a role Feb. 24 with Dell, focused on state and local governments in the western United States. In a letter announcing her upcoming departure addressed to the division she leads, Technology Services and Solutions, Dunkin explained that while she considers her work at the county important, the new role could potentially allow her to do more good. IT director shares how agency improves customer management using SaaS platform

Chad Sheridan says the USDA uses a cloud-based platform to drive improvements in user experience for both employees and customers through it’s farmers.gov portal. This has modernized capabilities for its field offices as well as opened a self-service option for farmers to participate in the program themselves. Watch the interview.
