As state governments continue to acclimate to changes made permanent by the pandemic, their CIOs’ priorities heading into 2022 remained largely unchanged. NASCIO's annual list of its members' top 10 priorities found that state technology leaders are most focused on cybersecurity, digital services, broadband development and cloud-based services, with cyber leading the list for the ninth year in a row. Connecticut names its first geographic information officer

The Connecticut Office of Policy and Management announced Wednesday the appointment of Alfredo Herrera, a former geographic information systems analyst for the City of New Haven, as the state’s first geographic information officer. As the state’s head GIS official, Herrera is tasked with planning and delivering location-data technology that supports “key services” for the state, including road planning and emergency management. Two bad things that go badly together

The resurgence of botnet Emotet after a law enforcement takedown earlier this year is getting a boost from fellow crime group TrickBot, researchers at Check Point have found. While both groups were dealt blows by global law enforcement, they've clawed back recently, with 113 new Emotet targets in the first week of December. The majority of TrickBot’s victims are focused in Portugal and the United States, Checkpoint found. Read more on CyberScoop.
