Cleveland mayor names innovation chief

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb last week named Froilan Roy C. Fernando, a longtime technology consultant, as the city’s new chief innovation and technology officer. Fernando, who most recently held a vice president role at PNC Bank, is tasked with “the development, execution and coordination of technology with the goal of transforming the user experience for both municipal functions and in everyday interactions with residents,” according to last Thursday's announcement. Someone's not paying attention in school

Just 12% of technology leaders in K-12 school districts believe their organizations’ top officials have a “high awareness” of cybersecurity issues, according to a poll published yesterday by the cloud-security firm iBoss and the edtech nonprofit Project Tomorrow. “Overall, the relatively low levels of awareness of key stakeholders in cybersecurity preparation is sobering,” the report reads. And while 46% of tech leaders surveyed described their concern toward cyberattacks as “high,” just 22% of administrators felt the same way. Benjamin Freed has more.

Cuyahoga County, Ohio, may finally have a new ERP

After years of delays, cost overruns, employee resignations and corruption charges, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, may finally be ready to launch a major upgrade to its enterprise resource planning system. The project, which was originally slated for completion in 2018 at a cost of $25 million, now carries a $35 million price tag and has fewer features, but it's scheduled to switch on in the coming weeks.
