Who'll win the race to go digital?

The Montana Department of Commerce is expected to win an informal race among state agencies to digitize 100% of its processes, CIO Kevin Gilbertson told StateScoop yesterday. The competitions started late last year when Gov. Greg Gianforte challenged executive-branch departments to go fully digital, and while the commerce department will likely hit that goal this summer, other agencies will follow next year. “The effort that’s involved by both the citizen and the agent should really be dramatically impacted by the ability to do this,” Gilbertson said. StateRAMP says it's in 10 states

StateRAMP, a group of government technology and industry officials that formed last year to create security standards for state-government cloud vendors, said Tuesday that its practices have been adopted in at least 10 states. The organization, which is modeled after the FedRAMP program for federal IT providers, has participants in places like Texas, California, Florida and North Carolina, “far surpassing our expectations," said its executive director, Leah McGrath. K-12 cyber awareness still lagging among leadership, say IT staff

Just 12% of K-12 tech leaders said their school board members have a high degree of awareness of cyberthreats facing the education sector, according to a survey out this week from the cloud-security company iBoss and the edtech nonprofit Project Tomorrow. “Overall, the relatively low levels of awareness of key stakeholders in cybersecurity preparation is sobering,” the report reads.
