Virginia gets its CIO

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin on Friday named Robert Osmond, the technology and business-strategy chief at the Virginia Department of Transportation, as the commonwealth’s new CIO. Osmond is Youngkin's second pick for CIO, following the brief appointment Phil Wittmer, a former Kansas IT chief who left in late February after just a few weeks. Osmond, who starts his new role today, spent 15 years with IBM before joining VDOT in 2016. Colin Wood reports.

Former NYC CIO named sanitation boss

Former New York City CIO Jessica Tisch is now the city's sanitation commissioner, Mayor Eric Adams announced this morning. Tisch had led the city's Department of Information Technology & Telecommunications from 2019 to 2021, though said when she stepped back in January that she would remain in Adams' administration. Benjamin Freed has more.

NASCIO takes closer look at diversity in state IT

A NASCIO report published last week sheds new light on how state CIOs are approaching diversity and inclusion at their agencies nearly two years after a nationwide reckoning on race and social justice. It found that while a vast majority of CIOs say they're running an inclusive workplace, there's still much work to do. “The bottom line is that state IT has a workforce gap problem and the vast majority of job seekers today view diversity and inclusion as important factors when looking for employment,” the report reads.
