It's time for broadband grants

The Biden administration last Friday published its notice of funding opportunity and nearly 100 pages of guidelines for $45 billion in broadband funding contained in of last year’s infrastructure law. The guidance covers the $42.5 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment, or BEAD, program, which is meant to fund the construction of new fiber networks, mapping coverage and providing internet subscriptions to low-income households. A new way around Connecticut

Connecticut officials last week announced the expansion of Aria, an app that that provides free access to a virtual interpreting service for people who are blind or have limited vision, to travelers at Hartford's Bradley International Airport. The program launched last October, covering buses, trains and ferries. Colin Wood has details.

Wither MiamiCoin?

Like the rest of the cryptocurrency market, MiamiCoin, the niche cryptocurrency that Miami officials started touting last year as a new source of revenue, has had a tough go recently. Maryland's latest cyber moves

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan last week signed three cybersecurity bills, funding new technology purchases and staff positions, and solidifying the roles of the state CISO and information security office. The legislation also created new vulnerability assessment requirements for water and sewer utilities in the state. Ben has more.
