California fills CIO role

California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that Liana Bailey-Crimmins, the state’s CTO, will serve as the new CIO and director of the California Department of Technology. Once confirmed by the state Senate, Bailey-Crimmins will fill a vacancy left last year when Newsom promoted longtime CIO Amy Tong to secretary of government operations. Colin Wood reports.

Don't break the business

Connecticut CIO Mark Raymond told StateScoop recently that while his state's IT consolidation process is moving ahead, he's also taking it a few steps at a time. "We’re changing incrementally so we don’t break the business," Raymond said in a video interview at NASCIO's midyear conference. “Large changes scare people. Our approach has been 1% improvement, just get better every day.” Watch the video.
