Puerto Rico's big cyber bet

Puerto Rico yesterday announced plans for major cybersecurity upgrades across the island territory. The $7.6 million program includes building out a security operations center and implementing protective services like endpoint detection, event logging and firewalls. Gov. Pedro Pierluisi said "it has been necessary to develop projects aimed at strengthening the cybersecurity measures of the agencies" as he tries to create a "100% digital" government. Colorado tees up $500M for broadband

The Colorado Broadband Office announced the launch of a new grant program as it prepares to pump a half-billion dollars into expanding high-speed internet access. The office called on ISPs to submit letters of intent to gain chunks of funding the state will receive through both the American Rescue Plan and last year's infrastructure law. Colin Wood has details.

How Michigan State is pushing broadband expansion

On this week’s episode of the Priorities podcast, Michigan State University CIO Melissa Woo talks about how the university is pursuing broadband expansion across the state. Woo tells Emily Bamforth that Michigan State will extend and install infrastructure that connects main fiber optic service lines to communities that are underserved or entirely without access to high-speed internet. San Diego launches homeless resources website

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria and the city’s homelessness department launched a new website last week that gathers key statistics and other information about efforts to support the local homeless population. The website contains links to programs designed to help the city's homeless residents, including nearly 2,500 unsheltered people and about 2,300 in shelters. Colin has more.
