Ohio gives police $3.5M to fight violent crime, human trafficking

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Friday announced awards totaling $3.5 million to help 14 law enforcement agencies throughout the state address violent crime and human trafficking, many of which will use their grants to purchase new technology. “If we know for example that a certain car with a certain license plate kidnapped somebody or there was a violent crime, we’d be able to pick up where those cars are and be more proactive in addressing crime,” said Andrew Dlugosielski, a spokesperson for the Toledo Police Department, which plans to spend a $370,000 award on automated license plate readers. Montana Commerce Department wins race toward going all-digital

The Montana Department of Commerce won an informal race among state-government agencies to achieve 100% digitization, Gov. Greg Gianforte’s office announced earlier this month. The department, which is responsible for promoting economic development, housing and tourism, had been expected to be the first to achieve that all-digital benchmark, which Gianforte has prodded state agencies to hit by the end of the 2023 fiscal year.
