Virginia completes migration to cloud-enabled data center

The Virginia Information Technologies Agency announced last week that all 65 of the commonwealth’s agencies have completed their moves to a new, cloud-enabled data center. The final migrations completed a transfer started in 2020, leaving behind a sprawling, 193,000-square-foot warehouse that now sits empty, officials said. Virginia CIO Robert Osmond called the migration “a milestone” that puts the commonwealth on a “cloud-first roadmap.” Benjamin Freed has more.

Free Wi-Fi rolled out to 40,000 Fort Worth residents

Fort Worth, Texas, is significantly expanding its free Wi-Fi network to residents with limited connectivity. The wireless initiative, launching Tuesday, will provide free internet access to about 40,000 residents located in five historically underserved neighborhoods. The rollout is the culmination of 18 months of planning and collaboration between city agencies, local school districts, neighborhood associations and tech companies Cisco and Presidio, said Kevin Gunn, Fort Worth’s chief technology officer. Report: Trump lawyers went after voting machine data in several states

Lawyers allied with former President Donald Trump copied data from voting machines in a Georgia county, as part of a broader effort nationwide to access election technology, according to a Washington Post investigation. In addition to elevating the risks of compromising election administration, these efforts could make it easier to hack or reverse-engineer voting equipment, University of Michigan computer scientist J. Alex Halderman told the Post. Read the story.
