Inside Code for America’s new food benefits playbook

On this week’s Priorities podcast, Code for America’s Eleanor Davis and No Kid Hungry’s Marisa Kirk-Epstein explain a new playbook designed to help state governments connect students to nutritious food options over the summer. The playbook, which Code for America released last month, helps states overcome some of the hurdles associated with tapping into the upcoming U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s $3.6 billion Summer Electronic Benefits Transfer program. “A lot of work is needed to get this up and running in the next year,” Kirk-Epstein says. “Although we have great models to lean on, a lot of challenges were identified that really need to be worked through in order to stand up this program.”
