State, industry security leaders share strategies to protect critical infrastructure
A new video from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers Midyear conference features presentations and a panel discussion of state and industry cybersecurity leaders sharing state-level approaches to security implementation and awareness. The event was held April 28 to May 1 in Washington, D.C.
Highlights:
IO Chief Security Officer Bob Butler gives an overview of Texas’ efforts, including the work behind the Texas Cybersecurity, Education and Economic Development Council, established in 2011. A report released by the council recommended the state appoint a state-level cybersecurity coordinator, establish a CyberStar security framework and focus on growing Texas’ cybersecurity private sector industry.
Georgia Chief Information Security Officer Mark Reardon discusses his state’s emphasis on situational awareness, educating state executives and the role of the Georgia Information Sharing and Analysis Center. The center was named 2012 fusion center of the year by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Michigan Chief Security Officer Dan Lohrmann shares his state’s security initiatives, including the governor’s ‘Michigan Cyber Initiative’ awareness campaign, state employee training and lessons learned, a toolkit and a new training and testing facility that opened in November 2012. Lohrmann recently published a new book, “BYOD For You: The Guide to Bring Your Own Device to Work.”
