Hawaii CIO: bugs still in insurance exchange
Sonny Bhagowalia, Hawaii’s chief information officer, said the state’s health insurance exchange as part of the Affordable Care Act still has bugs and he is concerned about the security.
The system’s sustainability is also in question and how to pay for technical improvements to the online insurance exchange, Bhagowalia said in an interview with KITV.
“There are no states that are completely private as here so this could present challenges in future regulations that are issued by the federal government,” Bhagowalia said.
Despite the technical issues, there is optimism the state will reach its goal of 48,000 people enrolled in ACA plans in its first year. The exchange has enrolled about 4,000 people so far.
“Yes, there are a lot of challenges here, but the feds have told us that there are many states that aren’t even up yet,” Bhagowalia said.
