Why community is a key pillar of a defense-in-depth security strategy

As cyberthreats grow more pervasive, state and local agencies need to expand their defense strategy to manage the onslaught of attacks even as they resources remain constrained.

In an exclusive StateScoop interview, Randy Rose from the Center for Internet Security (CIS) shares how adding community as a key pillar in a defense-in-depth security strategy can help agencies extend their resources and strengthen their defenses.

The sophistication of attacks is increasing each year, says Rose, senior director of operations and intelligence at CIS, and “the collective defense model, through community sharing, is what’s going to get [organizations] …to where we’re actually protecting against not just the threats of today, but future threats.”

Rose cites several examples of how state, local and tribal government organizations are coming together to develop best practices and share threat intelligence. He also offers recommendations on how state leaders can get started with implementing a defense-in-depth security approach.
