The Data Labs project out of Georgetown University on Tuesday announced that Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut and Pennsylvania will participate in its third-annual cohort. The states will work to produce in-depth, human-centered data projects aimed at improving state government services and the lives of the residents who use them.

The eight-month program, scheduled to run through November, offers hands-on support to state governments interested in using data more effectively to tackle complex issues impacting their citizens. Each state will have a dedicated project manager and receive guidance from subject matter experts, according to a Data Labs press release. This cohort’s areas of focus are homelessness, health care, digital licenses and credentials and workforce development.

A collaboration between Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact and Innovation and the National Governors Association, Data Labs launched in 2021 to help states recover from the coronavirus pandemic. Since then, it’s worked with 13 state teams to help design data projects on housing, small business, education, state benefits and others.

“Data Labs is a testament to the Beeck Center’s deep commitment to improving people’s lives through human-centered, data-informed policy solutions,” said Lynn Overmann, executive director of the Beeck Center. “Our partnership with NGA is crucial to ensuring state leaders have access to the tools, insights, and expertise necessary to use data and technology in ways that will measurably improve the lives of residents in their state.”
