Governor Steve Beshear joined local and company officials in the Winchester Industrial Park to celebrate the grand opening of Amazon’s new 80,000-square-foot customer service facility.

Amazon is investing more than $20 million and creating more than 550 full-time jobs as well as hundreds of seasonal jobs at the site over the next few years.

“This is a tremendous day for Kentucky and for Winchester,” said Gov. Beshear. “We’re happy to see Amazon continue to expand its footprint here in the Commonwealth, growing 550 full-time jobs and hundreds of seasonal jobs at the new customer service center in Winchester.”

Amazon’s presence in Kentucky includes fulfillment centers in Lexington, Campbellsville, Louisville and Hebron. The Winchester facility is Amazon’s first customer service center in Kentucky. The multi-million dollar investment in Winchester will help Amazon provide customer service and technical support.

“We have found tremendous talent in abundance in Winchester and we’re so proud to be a part of the community,” said Alex Krueger, Amazon’s Winchester site leader. “We’re glad to bring jobs and investment to the great Commonwealth of Kentucky.”

To encourage the investment and job creation in Winchester, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority preliminarily approved the company for tax incentives through the Kentucky Business Investment program.

“I want to extend my appreciation to Amazon for its investment in our region and the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” said Sen. R.J. Palmer, of Winchester. “The company’s investment will open doors that will continue to open well into the future with new jobs and economic growth and development. I also say kudos to our region’s workforce. It is a testament to our skilled workers that Amazon located its facility in Winchester – the first customer service center in the state. We welcome our newest corporate partner to our industrial community.”

“Today’s grand opening for Amazon will hopefully open the door for other companies to bring more jobs and opportunities to the people of Winchester and Clark County,” said Rep. Donna Mayfield, of Winchester. “I also look forward to the anticipated increase in jobs for area workers that Amazon will create with the customer service center, and develop a relationship as an outstanding corporate partner to our community.”

“When describing this project, the word ‘exciting’ is an understatement,” said Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner. “We have already seen the impact of having Amazon in our community in the short amount of time they have occupied their temporary space. To have them in their permanent home today will ensure hundreds more jobs, apartments rented, homes purchased and everything else that goes along with putting nearly 600 people to work.”

“A few short months ago we celebrated the announcement of Amazon’s first customer support center in Clark County and the Commonwealth,” said Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham. “Today we celebrate the opening of their beautiful new facility and their commitment to providing careers for hundreds of people in our community and region.”
