New Jersey, Princeton University team up on AI hub
New Jersey announced Monday it’s creating a new artificial intelligence hub in an effort to drive job growth and economic development, as well as guide the public sector in implementing artificial intelligence.
Through the collaboration between Princeton University and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the hub will convene AI researchers and industry leaders to advance the ethical use of AI and support new technological developments with other universities and community colleges around the state, according to a press release.
“With the establishment of this AI hub, we are not just anticipating the future–we are actively shaping it,” Beth Noveck, New Jersey’s chief innovation officer, said in a statement. “This partnership is a testament to our belief that when we harness Princeton’s renowned brainpower and New Jersey’s innovative spirit, there’s no problem too complex, no challenge too great.”
In October, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy issued an executive order that launched the state’s AI task force. One month later, the state issued a new policy for state employees with best practices on using AI.
Princeton and the State of New Jersey are planning to co-host a conference on AI at the university on April 11, bringing together academic, industry and government leaders. Similar partnerships around harnessing AI technologies have popped up around the country. In October, New York State announced a collaboration with the University of Albany, IBM and an AI research group with the State University of New York, which created the Center for Emerging AI Systems.
