This first video provides a high-level perspective on public sector budgeting, including an overview of state budget cycles and phases of the budgeting process, from planning to implementation.
Forty-six states begin the fiscal year on July 1, two states (Alabama, Michigan) on October 1 and Texas on September 1. Twenty-seven states have a one-year period period, 21 have biennial budget cycles and two have both.
NASBO says future videos will likely include information on fund sources, revenue and capital budgets.
