New York announces $18M for advanced buildings technology
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced $18 million in funding for projects that use advanced technologies in energy-efficient buildings through the state’s Next Generation Buildings Innovation Challenges program.
The NextGen Buildings Innovation Challenges are administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and are funded through the state’s 10-year, $6 billion Clean Energy Fund. The funding supports projects that use innovative building technologies, including ground source heat pumps, cutting-edge geothermal technologies and novel ways to manage airflow.
This round of funding, the seventh the state has released since the program’s launch in 2017, includes a new challenge area to advance “intelligent building” controls, including the development and commercialization of energy assets that reduce carbon emissions.
Through the six previous rounds of this program, 64 projects were awarded nearly $45 million. Awarded companies ranged from startups to large established companies, a news release said.
According to the press release, New York state’s energy authority will accept applications for this round of funding until Sept. 27 and host an informational webinar on Aug. 15.
