Orlando officials this week announced that Roberto Lopez, who’s been serving as the city’s deputy chief information officer the past two years, is the new citywide CIO.

In a post on LinkedIn Tuesday, the City of Orlando wrote that Lopez will take over as the city’s top technology official next week. Lopez started with the Orlando city government in 2001 as a technology business analyst before serving 16 years as a computer operations manager and becoming deputy CIO in 2022.

“Roberto has been a key part of our team, serving as Deputy Chief Information Officer for the past two years. With nearly 23 years of dedicated service to the city and several leadership roles in the IT Department, Roberto is the perfect fit for this position,” the city’s LinkedIn post reads.

Lopez will replace former Orlando CIO Rosa Akhtarkhavari, who in June announced a retirement that caps 32 years of service to the city.

“I have had the privilege of working with and being mentored by some great people along the way, but two stand out. At the beginning of my career by Alberto Pabon and most recently by Rosa Akhtarkhavari,” Lopez wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing his promotion.
