Rhode Island re-ups with NIC on long-term deal
State of Rhode Island Signs New Long-Term Contract with Rhode Island Interactive LLC
The state of Rhode Island will be continuing its outsourced e-government agreement with Providence-based Rhode Island Interactive, LLC. Following a competitive bid process, the state awarded the company a three-year contract that includes renewals, which could extend the agreement to July 2019. The new contract went into effect on July 1, 2014, and was approved by the Rhode Island Department of Administration.
“One of my top priorities has been to modernize state government, while simultaneously creating a more open and transparent government,” Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee said. “Rhode Island Interactive has provided solid support on numerous projects, including the launch of my Transparency Portal. Our team looks forward to continuing to receive Rhode Island Interactive’s support as we continue to build a more efficient and open government presence online.”
As with the original contract signed in 2001, Rhode Island Interactive will continue to provide e-government services using a transaction-funded solution. This model provides e-government services to the state without using appropriated taxpayer budget dollars.

In its 13-year partnership with the state, Rhode Island Interactive has worked with more than 45 state agencies, boards, commissions, and local governments to deliver convenient online services. Currently, the company manages over 100 interactive services. A member of the NIC Inc. family of companies, the company has developed a variety of online services, websites and mobile applications for the state, including online drivers license and registration renewals, an enterprise business tax filing system and both salt and freshwater fishing licenses.

The RI.gov portal has been named as one of the top ten state government websites seven times in the past eight years in the Best of the Web awards conducted through the Center for Digital Government.
