Los Angeles’ Information Technology Agencymanages the IT systems and network traffic for more than 37 departments. When ITA needed help consolidating and analyzing security data across multiple departments, the citys CISO Timothy Lee implementedunique, cloud-based security information and event managementto improve itscyber defenses. Lee also led the Cyber Intrusion Command Center, and implemented the city’s first Integrated Security Operations Center to collect and correlate data into one single database and useable dashboard. These new proactive tools have enabled the city to quickly and efficiently gather information about threats, and identify strategies to prevent future intrusions.
Chris Cruz

Chris Cruz the department’s chief deputy director of operations oversees the Office of Technology Services, the Office of Information Security, the Geographic Information Office, the state Project Management Office and CalCloud. In addition, Cruz led the outreach effort in 2015 to state agencies and local governments across California to encourage the use of CalCloud.

Lauren Lockwood and herteam arebuilding next-generation digital platforms that focus on the needs of the user.
Already, they’ve started revamping Boston.gov.With partners Acquia and IDEO, the city launched its pilot site, which organizes information by broad, intuitive topic areas such as Moving in Boston or Owning a Home. Users can visit the project’s blog to learn about each step of the project, and they can submit comments to the city.
Lockwood said her groupis led by four principles: act as a helpful human, be equal parts warm and official, help people navigate a vast system, and build an energizing environment.

Amy Tong was named acting CIO of Californiain March,but she was nominated for her work as CIOof the stateHealth and Human Services Agency, a title she concurrently holds. At HHSA,sheuses health data to improve the relationship between citizens, health providers and state government. Sheworks closely with the departmentand itskey members to establish, promoteand implement a strategic governance body. Tongalso serves asdeputy director for the department’sOffice of Systems Integration, where she focuses on helping the officeprovide projectand procurement management servicesto customers, and using technology in innovative ways.
Dean Johnson

As COO for the Georgia Technology Authority, Dean Johnson played a pivotal role in privatizingGeorgia’s IT infrastructure and managed network services with leading technology providers. He managed the state’s IT enterprise modernization, which encompassed consolidation;virtualization;and upgrades affecting data center services, data and telecommunications networks, email systems, and security management. He is integral to the Service Integration Initiative, which makes it easier to add new technology offerings to the state’s service portfolio. He oversees service quality, customer satisfactionand consumption forecasting. Johnson is president of the National Association of State Technology Directors.
Todd Kimbriel

Todd Kimbriel was recently confirmed as the state’s CIOafter serving in the role on an interim basis for two years.As the state’s top tech executive, Kimbriel oversaw the hiring of a permanent chief information security officer anda data analytics guru to guide the state’s use of data. Kimbriel has also worked to overhaul how the state’s information technology arm oversees IT contracts.
Amen Ra Mashariki

Amen Ra Mashariki has been instrumental as New York City has worked to overhaul its data policy to make it more inclusive, and he’s worked to build public engagement about the city’s open data offerings as part of that push. Mashariki’s agency works, in a sense, as a research arm of city government by analyzing the city’s data to find answers to some of the city’s biggest issues.In his role as chief analytics officer, Mashariki has used the analytics office to work withagencies that want to dig intocity trends.
