Under JasonAllison’s leadership, the Agency for State Technologyhas revitalized Florida’s information technology landscape. As state CIO, Allison has assembled an extraordinary team of professionals and with his vision, enthusiasm and charisma they have intensified Florida’s IT strategic planning. The team has also successfully implemented project management and cybersecurity standards, and has fostered the respect and buy-in from agency partners. In 2015 alone, Allison and the AST team have completed comprehensive assessments and recommendations for data center architecture, cybersecurity, cloud adoption and open data, and are completing the final phase in the consolidation of the two state data centers.

Suma Nallapati

In her short time with the state, Suma Nallapati has intuitively responded to the service delivery needs of Colorado’s agencies. She set a clear back-to-basicsagenda for the IT team while increasing transparency for executive branch agencies with a customer dashboard called OneView, from which they can track projects, budgets, security, resourcesand personnel. Nallapati’s new focus on major incident/change management has translated into an 89 percentdecrease in failed changes and a 130 percentincrease in compliance in just one year. Additionally, employee engagement has grown 10 percentin just two years, a testament to her leadership.

Tom Baden

Shortly after Tom Baden becameMinnesota’s CIO, he began an agile-development-based mobility push to change the way the state offers services to its citizens. One of the initiatives Baden spearheaded was an overhaul of the department’s Workforce One app, which was built with the agile strategy that Baden helped shepherd in. The projectcame in on time and under budget. Now, Baden is working on a new cybersecurity strategy for the state.

Mark Myers

Thoughonlya year into his role as the chief technology officer for Arkansas, Mark Myers has made progress toward advancing the state’s information technology posture. Myers has prioritized mobility, broadband and cybersecurity. On the mobility front, Myers has established a “bring your own device” program for state employees, allowing them to securely operate on the states network. Myers is also spearheading efforts to connect 100 percentof state school districts with 200kilobytes per secondinternet for each student.

Karen Jackson

Virginia Secretary of Technology Karen Jackson has worked to promote innovation, technological leadership and IT business since joining Gov. Terry McAuliffe’s Cabinet two years ago. In her role, shes helped lead Virginia to several firsts: The state established a cybersecurity commission, which is helping to guide Virginia’s cyber policy. Virginia also created the first state information sharing and analysis organization, and it became the initialstate to conduct the first Federal Aviation Administration-approved drone delivery. She’s a leading national voice for cybersecurity, including its allied opportunities in economic and workforce development.

Dewand Neely is workingto advancethe state’s data analytics efforts. After transitioning into the role last October, Neelyintroduced a new leader for the state’s Management and Performance Hub and expandedthe number of ways thatthe state analyzes data. In addition, Neely placed an emphasis on cybersecurity, opening a security operations center and implementing the IN-ISAC.

Miguel Gamio has focused on connectivity aschief information officer of San Francisco. In addition to launching the firstnetwork devoted exclusively to the Internet of Things, Gamio also workson connecting citizens with broadband through #SFWiFi an effort to bring high speed, wireless internet to the city’s main thoroughfares and public parks. In fact, aheadof Super Bowl 50, Gamio and his team bolstered the Wi-Fi offerings in some of the event’s venues.In addition, Gamio ispartneringwith the city’s transportation authority tobringWi-Fi to public transit.

Anne Roest

As commissioner of the New York City Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, Anne Roest leads the team in New York City responsible for the major information technology and telecom initiatives. In addition to CityLink NYC an effort to bring public, high-speed Wi-Fi to kiosks around the city Roest also oversees the citys work to improve how it uses geospatial data and how it releases mobile applications forresidents. Roest has also spearheaded efforts, alongside the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics, to reform the way New York, which has the largest city ITbudget in the nation, handles open data.
