State IT Innovation of the Year

The Commonwealth of Virginia launched a new phase of its program to modernize all Virginia state government websites. By collaborating with all agencies, the program team provided for new tools and solutions, updated web standards, training and unified branding to create a trusted, cohesive, secure, accessible and streamlined customer experience for all 8.6 million Virginians. The program has been remarkably successful. In just a year, the enterprise improved from 44% accessibility compliance to over 88%. A new branding bar was deployed to 100% of public-facing sites to ensure consistency. Using similar tools and programs provided shared knowledge and collective problem solving, which saved money, time and resources across the enterprise.
