LAPD CIO Brian Ganley hired as Ventura County’s IT services chief
The Los Angeles Police Department’s chief information officer has taken a new job as chief of IT services for the Ventura County government. Brian Ganley will succeed Mike Pettit, who was promoted to assistant government officer for Ventura County last year.
According to the Ventura County Star , the search for a new supervisor was exhaustive. After combing through 300 applicants and searching nationwide, Ventura County Executive Officer Mike Powers ultimately decided on Ganley.
In his new position, Ganley will oversee 180 county employees and roughly a dozen contractors. According to the Ventura County IT website , Ganley will provide “information technology business alignment, leadership, strategy and guidance to [county employees].”

Ganley joins an organization leading a wide range of technology initiatives. Last year, officials and corporate executives held a summit exploring the future of broadband in the region in which some lawmakers emphasized the need for high quality internet infrastructure for attracting and retaining new businesses to the region. Last March, Ventura County officials piloted a web-based system to test for and identify fraud among those applying for welfare benefits.
Ganley was previously chief information officer of the Los Angeles Police Department, a position he held for just under a year. He also served as CIO of Glendale for five years, worked for West Hollywood for 13 years, and spent two and a half years with California’s Compensation Insurance Fund.
