Industry Leadership of the Year

Dana Barnes is a tireless advocate for state and local governments, consistently listening to their challenges and taking action to address their priorities. As of September 2020, Barnes is the senior vice president of U.S. public sector at Palo Alto Networks.

Previously — and during the StateScoop 50 nomination and voting period — Barnes was a vice president for state and local government at Microsoft, where he lead his team and Microsoft partners to deliver technology solutions that solved problems, produced results, enabled digital transformation and enhanced state services. Under Barnes’ leadership, states were brought to the table with Microsoft’s CEO to enable greater communication, collaboration and partnerships. Barnes’ significant contributions are empowering state governments to modernize, gain efficiencies and achieve more for all constituents.
